Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats

Nick Clegg MP has been named as the new Leader of the Liberal Democrats, following a ballot of members from across the country.

He set out his vision for the party now he has been elected Lib Dem leader.

Nick said: "Firstly, I want to say thank you to members who have voted me Leader of the Liberal Democrats.

"This is a very exciting time to be Leader of our Party. I know, from talking to people all over the country, that people are looking for a real alternative in British politics - and it's the Liberal Democrats who can provide that. The Labour government is discredited on so many important issues, and the Tories don't stand for anything any more."

Nick continued:"My three main priorities as Leader are: to support Britain's families so every child gets the best start in life, to take real action to tackle crime, and to improve our NHS so it delivers the care people need. I know these front line services really matter to people and I'm going to do everything I can to protect them."
