Lib Dems and Tories both take Labour votes at Henley

9.12.07am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 27th Jun 2008

The Conservatives have held the Henley seat but Liberal Democrats also increased their share of the vote at the expense of Labour, who came a disastrous fifth and lost their deposit. Full details are to the right of this story.

Beaconsfield local party chairman Peter Chapman said "This result shows how well placed we are to take seats from Labour at the next general election. There are many seats where we are in close second place to Labour and not only in the north of England but close to here, too, such as Oxford East, a neighbouring constituency to Henley"
